Welcome to our truck build 2025! If you've met us over the last few years you will know that we were looking to purchase a yacht to sail around the world, but we had a change of plans in 2024 which led us to purchase a proper Truck! We searched high and low for the right truck but we had some basic requirements to make it work, these included:

  • Crew cab - as a family of 4 we needed space, the crew cab would also offer us a spare room!,

  • 4x4 capability - we plan to visit the snow, sand and everything in between,

  • In the sweet spot for age - to new and everything is computer controlled, to old and sourcing spares becomes a problem - ours was built in 2004,

  • Single rear wheels - saves on expensive conversions,

  • Sensible payload - our truck has an overall capacity of 18T which will be more than enough us.

  • Left hand drive - we plan on spending as much time as possible in left hand drive countries and this also should open up our audience when the time comes to sell.

After trawling the internet it soon became apparent that we were not going to find a truck in the UK, so started search in France, Poland, Czech Republic etc. It was also now at this point we realised we didn't really have the space or resources to build something this and started researching 'Overland Truck Converters UK' and found Motorcraft Adventure Developments Ltd based in Doncaster, a couple of phone calls later we found ourselves standing in their new workshop talking to Ian the director looking at all the shiny stuff. At this point we realised they were the company for us, their attention to detail, especially on custom interiors, was next level. With Motorcraft onboard our search continued, but this time we had MC's experience on trucks to call on. After loosing out on a couple of nice trucks including bidding on a Polish auction site, we finally found the truck! a French wildfire fire engine, located in Paris from what we thought was a reputable dealer (more on that later). Motorcraft arranged collection and sent there team to Paris to bring it back. As soon as it arrived back in the UK we headed up to have a look.

Once we had spent time finalising the layout and our requirements we left it in MC's hands and headed home.

Fast forward to January 2025 and we got the message to collect which turned out to be a crazy last minute dash sorting out transport etc (the truck was still registered in France), But nothing was stopping us bringing the truck back to Cornwall.

Now it was our time to start work, the planning, ordering, building, filming and swearing commenced the minute we off loaded!

Come along for the trip as we fit out the hab box and refit the cab!
